Hook Head Lighthouse, Co. Wexford

This lighthouse was originally tended by monks and is one of the oldest in Europe, established circa 1172. The present lantern was built in 1864, and converted to electricity in 1972. It stands 46 meters above high water and has a range of 23 nautical miles. Hook Head is no longer a manned lighthouse.
