Any set of my images will show that I am a proficient observer, but also that my mind
is also focused. The images of this kind work to create a hunger, in others, to want to see and know more about the subject and the
observer. This selection on this site represents but a very small part of both the volume and complexity of this investigation.
It also shows, I have laboured long and hard, to produce more than just a view of the oldest, greenest, and grandest event
on the Irish calendar. I haven't just worked to yank meaningful moments from this crazy Irish whirlwind event, although that in
itself would justify it. I did it, so others could view something of my confused, excitable and complex self, along side our shared
camaraderie, pride and prejudice.
--John Benton-Harris
Before embarking on the task of capturing St. Patrick's Day parades around the globe, John Benton-Harris was a photo journalist
the world over. He sought a subject that challenged him and awoke deep feelings and vivid memories, to "write with light" a
story "to explain man to his fellow man, and to himself". He settled on this subject because it evoked memories and emotions from his
upbringing in poverty in an Irish household in the Bronx. His work has won him critical acclaim everywhere.
